So glad 76 is getting some love here . I just listened to that 8/4/76 show, I forgot what an amazing 2nd set it has ! I don't have a a favorite year, specifically, but different years for different reasons . First half of 69, for the psychedelic era . Then it is the whole Keith era , each year has a different feel: 72, the "run of the mill" song are still tough, and the jams are great . 73-74, the best jamming, and great set architecture . At times a more transparent sound . 76, it' own beast, mellow, with great sets . 77 a balled fist of slow power, a more dense feel .
Early 78 continues this ( I just listened to 1/22/78 . Check out that "Other One", http://archive.org/details/gd1978-01-22.fob.akgd224e.holwein.motb-0086.101437.flac24
I like all the eras, but anything pre 1980, gets my preference .
